Diabetic Awareness Screening

Diabetes is one of the biggest causes of blindness in Ireland. The Lions Diabetes Screening programme will detect people with undiagnosed diabetes and get them to the treatment which may save their lives, save their sight or save their limbs.

The screening is typically set up in a shopping centre where the lions will approach people and offer then a free screening which takes a few minutes. Tests are carried out by health care professionals such as doctors, nurses or dentists.

Lions assist by organising the event, booking the venue, ensuring all the supplies and the health care professionals are available, advertising and, on the day, by registering people and making them feel comfortable.
